ew York, New York. Original $5 Fr. 397a. Irving NB. Charter #1357. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58. Issued by the Irving National Bank (Charter# 1357) before 1874, this Original Series $5 is the picture of originality and eye appeal even with a comment for "Pinholes" applied by PMG. Here bold colors manifest throughout thanks to both the crimson hue of the Treasury overprint and the gradient of neutral tones that accomplish the face design. From vignettes such as Columbus in Sight of Land and America Presented to the Old World seen at opposite ends of an intricate title block, bidders may not only find themselves lost within a cacophony of engraved detail, but simply awestruck by something that should have been redeemed long ago during the 1870s after what should have been a short, brutish stint in circulation. Even more remarkable is that bold penned signatures applied at the hands of Cashier John L. Jewett, (Jr.) and President John Castree remain distinct after all these years lending this remarkable note a quality often missing from many contemporary National Bank Notes and something bound to help play a part in commanding a premium bid. PMG comments "Pinholes." Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000. Click here for certification details from PMG.
