NEPALESE BRONZE FIGURE OF BODHISATTVA LOKESHVARA

Ca. 14th century AD > A Nepalese bronze figure of Lokeshvara seated on a double-lotus pedestal, wearing an elaborate crown and jewellery. The principal hands are brought together before the chest, with additional arms rising at either side. Lokeshvara is a name of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva who embodies compassion and responds to the suffering of living beings. His multiple arms express the capacity to help in many ways. In Nepal, such images are central to a long-established Buddhist devotional and image-making tradition. > > Size: 175mm x 90mm; Weight: 545g > Provenance: Private London Collection; Ex.
