Nazzareno Sidoli (1879-1969) - Ritratto di gentiluomo (datato 1918)

Fine oil painting on canvas by the Piacenza master Nazzareno Sidoli (1879–1969), dated 1918, a central year of his full artistic maturity before his definitive return to Piacenza in the twenties. The work depicts an intense and psychological three-quarter male portrait. The subject, a refined gentleman of the era, wears a dark evening jacket, a shirt with a diplomatic collar and a black bow tie. The painting technique is of the very highest technical level, particularly evident in the extraordinary realistic rendering of the facial details, the penetrating gaze, and the nuances of the beard and hair, elements typical of the great Italian portrait school of the turn of the century, of which Sidoli was regarded as a distinguished exponent. The painting is signed in cursive and dated in orange/red on the front lower left: "Naz. Sidoli 1918". Dimensions of the canvas: 60 x 47 cm Conditions: The work is in excellent overall conservation. This is an original original-period canvas, never re-stretched or subjected to invasive restorations. The painting is mounted on its contemporaneous wooden frame equipped with expansion corner keys (wedges). On the back the canvas shows its original patina and the workshop’s historic nailwork. The painting surface is stable with a very light and fascinating natural craquelure coherent with its over one hundred years of history. Shipping: The painting will be shipped inside a professional reinforced packaging (high-thickness bubble wrap and shaped rigid protective cardboard) via tracked and insured express courier.
