Natural petrified wood set from Madagascar – Millions of...

This extraordinary set of petrified wood from Madagascar combines fascinating specimens that showcase the impressive connection between fossil history and mineral beauty in a striking way. Over millions of years the original wood structures were preserved by mineral processes and transformed into unique works of natural art. Each piece shows its own color world and grain. Warm red, orange, brown and gold tones meet dark contrasts and fine lines that still reveal the original growth structures of the wood today. The high-gloss polished surfaces bring the natural patterns into especially striking relief and give the pieces extraordinary depth. Petrified wood belongs to the most fascinating fossil minerals in the world. Through complete mineralization the original wood structure remains preserved, while the material simultaneously gains the hardness and durability of stone. The finds from Madagascar are particularly valued for their extraordinary colors and excellent polishability. Extraordinary Quartz Hand Polished Petrified Wood Weight: 2217.15 g Size: - Treatment: None Origin: Madagascar It is a fossil wood dating back 200 million years, all parts from a log or branches have been silicified, meaning that organic components were little by little replaced by silicon in the form of jasper, chalcedony and more rarely opal. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone: there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks. Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood: the silicon. And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
