This impressive sphere made of petrified wood combines the original structure of ancient tree matter with an extraordinarily vivid color palette. The typical grain of the wood is clearly preserved and runs in dynamic, partly flowing lines across the entire surface – a fascinating insight into grown structures that have mineralized over millions of years. Colorwise the piece shows an especially intense combination of deep reds, warm browns and copper tones as well as dark, almost black areas. In between lie light, sometimes cream-colored and slightly transparent zones, which give the overall image additional depth. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone : there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks. Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood : the silicon. And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language.
