Naar Rene Paul Chambellan - Relief

The bas-relief named 'Enlightenment' is designed in the Art Deco style and based on the historic reliefs by the American sculptor Rene Paul Chambellan (1893–1955), originally created on commission for the Chanin Building in New York. CHANIN BUILDING The Chanin Building was built in 1929 by Irwin Salmon Chanin (1891–1988). Chanin rose from the humble son of an immigrant family to a successful architect and developer through his own efforts. With the building that bears his name, he wanted to express everything New York City meant to him and can mean to anyone who chooses to seize opportunities and pursue success. In the building's lobby eight monumental reliefs were placed above ornate bronze screens. Collectively, these works carry the theme 'New York, the City of Opportunity', in which four mental qualities (vision, courage, enlightenment, achievement) and four physical qualities (activity, effort, endurance, success) are central for the individual who strives for growth and the attainment of success.
