The Little Dancer of Fourteen Years (French: La Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans) is a sculpture, begun around 1880 by Edgar Degas, of a young pupil from the Paris Opera Ballet School, a Belgian named Marie van Goethem. Because Degas’ eyesight began to fail rapidly after his fifties, he increasingly had to rely on his sense of touch. Sculpture proved to be a solution as well. Although in this final period of his life he showed his work to almost no one, he decided, after two years of working on The Little Dancer, to submit the work for the Impressionists’ exhibition in Paris. The Belgian dancer Marie van Goethem was 14 when she posed as a model for Edgar Degas. with a real tutu fabric dress the sculpture is mounted on a wooden base, which adds a touch of natural beauty to the allure. beautiful statue for every space Bring the beauty of ballet into your home with our beautiful bronze statue, a timeless piece that captures the magic of movement and grace! handmade and signed with e.degas Dimensions: height 66 cm, width 30 cm, depth 25 cm.
