Tutte le aste / Sculture / naar Antoine Denis Chaudet - Sculpture

Antique bust of Napoleon, after Antoine-Denis Chaudet. A.D. Chaudet was a French sculptor, born in 1763 and died in 1810. Napoleon, while in Rome, saw Chaudet's bust of the Roman emperor Caesar and was immediately fond of it, because it was very special: it had “cut-off shoulders.” Until then, in France only busts were made with richly decorated shoulders (epaulettes) and rich decorations on the chest, standing on a plinth. Napoleon found this new version of the bust so beautiful that he asked Chaudet to come to Paris, start a workshop there, and thus carve 1,200 identical images of himself. Chaudet brought a number of pupils to France and thus 1,200 such busts were made for one in every town hall in France. The photos are part of the description.
