Ossatorum Aeterna is a company specializing in the creation of realistic replicas of dinosaur skeletons, prehistoric animals, and other extinct or endangered species. Item for Sale: Replica Tooth of Mammuthus columbi Overall Dimensions: Height: 34 cm Length: 27 cm Depth: 14 cm Weight: 200 g Discover a museum-quality, ultra-realistic replica of a Columbian mammoth (Mammuthus columbi) tooth, carefully crafted to reproduce the imposing morphology and characteristic surface details of one of the most iconic Ice Age mammals of North America. Designed for collectors, paleo-artists, educators, and enthusiasts, this piece combines anatomical fidelity with a highly realistic mineralized appearance. About Mammuthus columbi Mammuthus columbi, commonly known as the Columbian mammoth, was one of the largest mammoth species to inhabit North America during the Pleistocene. These enormous proboscideans lived across much of what is now the United States and parts of Central America, inhabiting a variety of environments during the Ice Age. Unlike carnivorous dinosaurs, mammoths relied on highly specialized teeth adapted to processing large quantities of tough vegetation. Their molars are particularly remarkable. Composed of numerous enamel plates separated by softer dentine and cementum, they functioned as highly efficient grinding surfaces. As the animal fed, the teeth gradually wore down, continuously exposing new enamel surfaces. This replica captures the distinctive architecture and weathered appearance characteristic of a fossilized Mammuthus columbi tooth. Key Features — Superior Craftsmanship Impressive Size & Lightweight Construction With a weight of approximately 200 g, this replica combines impressive dimensions with a lightweight construction, making it suitable for display in private collections, offices, studios, educational environments, or museum-style showcases. Measuring approximately 34 × 27 × 14 cm, the piece has a substantial visual presence while remaining easy to handle and position. The replica has undergone a multi-step artisanal process designed to reproduce the appearance of naturally fossilized material. Particular attention has been given to the characteristic anatomical structures of the mammoth tooth, including its complex enamel morphology, surface relief, natural irregularities, and weathered fossil-like appearance. The result is a piece that reproduces the visual complexity of a genuine Mammuthus columbi specimen while remaining a carefully crafted replica. Museum-Style Display The imposing dimensions of this mammoth tooth make it a striking centerpiece for a natural history collection. Whether displayed alongside dinosaur fossils, Ice Age specimens, or other prehistoric replicas, it provides a distinctive representation of the megafauna that inhabited North America during the Pleistocene. A carefully positioned light source can further emphasize the mineral layers, surface relief, and variations in texture, creating a convincing museum-display effect. Material The replica is manufactured from a durable polymer structure. Each piece is individually finished, meaning that subtle variations in coloration and surface texture may occur, contributing to the natural appearance of the specimen. Scientific Accuracy The replica is based on paleontological references and documented anatomical characteristics of an 3D model provided by William Sprengelmeyer of an Mammuthus columbi tooth (SUI:15-497 ) from the Pleistocene, Dunlap, Iowa that was Collected by W. L. Reichelt. This piece is intended as a high-fidelity display replica, allowing collectors and enthusiasts to appreciate the morphology and appearance of a mammoth tooth without the rarity, fragility, and conservation requirements associated with an original fossil specimen.
