That search culminated in 1934 with the GG1, a joint project of the PRR, Baldwin, Westinghouse and General Electric, largely based on the successful EP3 locomotive of neighboring New Haven. Industrial designer Raymond Loewy modernized the original cast body into a design that remained contemporary for half a century.
