According to the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, directed by Banksy, Guetta was the security guard of a thrift shop before becoming its owner. He was into videography and was first introduced to the world of street art and graffiti by his cousin, the artist Invader. He later filmed other artists through the 2000s before launching himself into street art. Thierry Guetta became the artist Mr. Brainwash in a matter of weeks following a publicity campaign by Banksy.
