Mother of Pearl Shell - Haliotis midae – South African...

atural specimen of Haliotis Midae, an endemic species to the coasts of South Africa. This specimen presents a solid and well-mineralized structure, typical of individuals grown in rocky environments subjected to strong wave action. The shell shows a broad oval morphology, with evident thickness along the entire margin. The external sculpture is well developed, characterized by irregular ridges and deep growth folds, which testify to slow and layered growth. The line of respiratory openings is complete and easily readable, with regular and progressively stepped openings, an element of particular interest to collectors, as an indicator of the animal's biological maturity.
