Modern Pendant in Agate & Gold with an Antique Diamond Star, c. 1880 & Later

In the late 1960s, a new delight in the material itself developed in the field of goldsmithing. Gemstones were not only appreciated for their value, but also for their effect or structure. Agates in particular, with their grown, layered color gradients, ideally corresponded to this zeitgeist. This pendant is a fine example of this. A drop-shaped cut striped agate is set in a simple gold setting. Its fine, parallel bands in warm brown and beige tones appear here as a pattern of nature. The pieces of jewellery take a surprising turn at the bottom of the stone. Here, the agate is cut out in a round shape and inlaid with an inlay. A much older element is inserted into this field: a fine gold star set with rose cut diamonds, created around 1880. The small, gently shimmering stones lend the motif a delicate sparkle and create a deliberate contrast to the calm surface of the agate. This pendant thus unites two eras. The material-oriented design from around 1970 is combined with the figurative design language of the late 19th century. Old and new enter into a dialog that lends this piece of jewellery a sense of excitement. The pendant is worn on a long gold chain, which is included in the offer. The unique piece came to us here in Berlin.
