Mirror- Art Nouveau - Silver plated brass - Mythological Fish

This elegant Art Nouveau-style vanity mirror stands out for the delicacy of its lines and the rich symbolism of its decoration, reflecting the taste for organic forms and motifs inspired by the natural world that characterize the Modernist movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The piece combines a structure of silvered brass with an alpaca finish and a wooden backing, materials that provide solid construction and a refined aesthetic presence. The rectangular frame, with a clean and balanced profile, is embellished by a perimeter cordon moulding that runs around the entire piece, imparting a subtle ornamental effect without diminishing the prominence of the elegant reflective surface. The mirror preserves an attractive antique look, with gentle undulations and nuances of the passage of time that contribute to its authenticity and decorative charm. The most singular element of the set is at the base, where two mythological fish facing each other act as supports for the mirror. These fantastic creatures, modeled with great decorative sense, display curved and stylized bodies that evoke the flowing and dynamic forms so valued by Art Nouveau. Their design recalls mythical sea beings and symbolic imagery inspired by legends and aquatic nature, bringing movement and an almost sculptural character to the composition. The combination of the soft shine of the silvered alpaca, the sinuous shapes of the fish, and the functional elegance of the ensemble results in a refined piece full of personality. Beyond its usefulness as a desk mirror, it constitutes a notable decorative object capable of adding sophistication, romance, and an unmistakable modernist air to any interior. Its careful craftsmanship and the originality of its iconography make it an especially attractive piece for collectors of decorative arts, Art Nouveau furniture, and objects inspired by symbolic and naturalistic motifs.
