MICHAEL LITTLE ELK 14K YELLOW GOLD & STERLING SILVER BOLO TIE

Vintage Michael Little Elk (1950-2012) 14K Yellow Gold & Sterling Silver Bolo Tie. Stamped M L Elk 14K. Michael Little Elk (Lakota-Sioux) was raised on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, where he learned the traditions of his Lakota culture and was introduced at an early age to his family's craft of pipe carving. After moving to Colorado, he expanded his practice by experimenting with a variety of woods and metals, eventually translating his carving skills into distinctive silver and gold jewelry. Little Elk further developed his artistry under the guidance and influence of celebrated Native American jewelers Charles Loloma, Kenneth Begay, and Preston Monongye. Combining traditional techniques with contemporary design, he became known for meticulously fabricated jewelry distinguished by sculptural forms and fine craftsmanship. His pieces are individually handmade rather than cast, giving each work its own character. Little Elk's jewelry and sculpture have been exhibited and collected throughout the United States, with his work represented in the collection of the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. His work reflects a distinctive blend of Lakota cultural tradition, masterful hand fabrication, and contemporary Native American design. Approx. Net Weight: 126.6 grams | Ref: BD1558
