The exterior is covered with numerous circular indentations arranged in closely spaced rows. These carefully executed impressions served an essential practical function, providing a secure resting point for the needle and preventing it from slipping during sewing. The gently rounded crown displays a particularly attractive cross-hatched geometric composition, formed by intersecting incised lines that create a distinctive lattice pattern. This combination of circular punchwork and geometric engraving gives the thimble an unusually rich decorative character. The lower section terminates in a clearly defined raised rim, while the interior preserves the hollow construction characteristic of functional medieval finger protectors. During the Middle Ages, bronze and copper-alloy thimbles became important tools in textile production, domestic needlework and professional tailoring. Their manufacture reflects the development of specialised metalworking techniques and the increasing refinement of European sewing equipment. Comparable medieval bronze thimbles are preserved in Museum Wales, inventory number 32.426/6, and the London Museum, inventory number A3574, illustrating the widespread use of punched indentations and domed construction during the Late Medieval period. -All items are shipped fully insured.
