Mata Ortiz blackware pottery vessel, handcrafted in Chihuahua, Mexico. The olla features an asymmetrical undulating rim and a surface treatment that combines high-gloss burnished areas with matte-slipped decoration. The hand-painted design includes complex geometric bands of stair-step motifs, hatched triangles, and interlocking frets, alongside zoomorphic panels depicting a fish with cross-hatched scales. An incised signature is present in a matte area on the side of the vessel, reading Ortiz. The item is accompanied by a printed informational card identifying the culture and origin.
