Dan ceremonial mask, carved in dark wood with metal details in the eyes. End of the 19th Century, Early 20th Century. Represents the ideals of beauty, wisdom and self-control in Dan culture and was used in rituals, dances and initiations within the secret Poro society. Its refined design and the incorporation of plant fiber braids give it great realism and spiritual presence. Wood, plant fiber, metal.
