Broken Wall Broken Wall stems from Mart Signed’s exploration of the relationship between street art, matter and urban memory. The project brings a fragment of street language into homes, galleries and private collections, transforming a surface marked by time into a contemporary artwork. The wall is not only the support of the image, but becomes an integral part of the work. Its surface, the breaks, the traces of time and the natural characteristics of the material preserve the bond with the urban context from which street art arises. The fracture thus becomes an element of the artistic language: the boundary between the street and the exhibition space is broken and the urban fragment finds a new placement. The work The work does not impose an answer, but leaves each observer free to find their own interpretation. The stencil is created directly on the support: this is not a print or a reproduction. The work depicted in the photographs is exactly the one that will be received by the collector. Materials and authenticity The materials recovered from the street are chosen to maintain a living connection with the original street art language. Marks, abrasions, surface variations, irregularities and natural imperfections are not defects, but elements that belong to the material’s history and the artwork’s identity. These characteristics are deliberately preserved and integrated into the creative process. The work is signed, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist and delivered ready to hang. The frame is not included, unless otherwise indicated for the specific specimen. Instagram and participation in the project The journey of the work can continue even after purchase. Collectors can share their work on Instagram tagging @martsigned and using the hashtag #MartSigned. Works correctly tagged may be reposted by the artist through their channels, showing the different destinations reached by the works and creating a direct connection between artist, collector and the public. Periodically, through social networks, special initiatives, raffles or small gestures related to street art may also be organized. Participation is voluntary and independent of the purchase of the work. Any methods and conditions will be communicated through the artist’s official channels. The artist Mart Signed is an Italian street artist active internationally. His works are part of private collections in many countries and his artistic research develops around the concept “Where Are You Street Art?”: bringing street language and materiality into homes, galleries, private collections and spaces traditionally distant from the urban context. Over the years Mart Signed has developed his international presence through collaborations and relationships with various art-world entities. His research relates street art, urban memory, recovered materials and the transformation of space. In 2023 Mart Signed also participated in a documentary dedicated to Banksy and street art culture. Each piece is carefully packed, protected and insured, with particular attention to the most delicate parts and to the irregular shape of the support. Each piece is produced individually and no specimen can be identical to another. The shape of the support, the rupture, the surface, the marks, the imperfections and the material characteristics vary naturally from one work to another, making each piece unrepeatable. The 20 works share the same artistic project and the same conceptual core, but each maintains its own physical and visual identity. They are not 20 copies or reproductions of the same work, but 20 unique and different pieces, all belonging to the Broken Wall series. Each work is identified by a specific code shown on the certificate of authenticity.
