Mark Hutchins (XX) - Sea Garden 1

An early work by the artist Mark Hutchins. Between 2012 and 2022 he significantly shaped the art landscape of the Wellington region as Lead Curator for Contemporary Art at the Pataka Art+Museum. In 2022 he worked for the renowned auction house Webb's Wellington Gallery. There he is responsible for the appraisal, care, and curation of high‑caliber artworks. Mark Hutchins told me himself that he painted this picture himself in the 1990s. Original email content from Mark Hutchins Mark@webbs.co.nz Hello Gerhard Thanks for your message. What a surprise to see that picture after so many years. The answer to your question is yes, I did create this artwork many years ago—last millennium in fact. It was from an extensive series of works on paper in chalk pastel over watercolor, inspired by my travels in Indonesia in the early 1990s. Best regards Ngā mihi nui,
