Margit Elmenhorst (1940) - Gruppenbild mit Masken

Margit Elmenhorst (1940). "Gruppenbild mit Masken" (Group Portrait with Masks), 1970. Etching on laid paper. Griffelkunst-Vereinigung Hamburg, 1970. Hand-signed by the German artist. Dimensions: 54.1 x 38.2 cm. Margit Elmenhorst is distinguished by her combination of the technical rigor of classical printmaking with the emotional freedom of Expressionism. Her best-known works revolve around the theatrical concept of identity. She depicts schematic faces, masks, and figures that seem suspended between reality and fiction, evoking an enigmatic carnival where the distinction between what is real and what is mere appearance is called into question...
