Double inkstand in sterling silver .925 from the late Victorian and Edwardian era. Tray (main body): in sterling silver pierced work on four feet. Made in London by Goldsmiths' Alliance Ltd (Joseph & Horace Savory) between 1866 and 1893. Bearing the marks "JSH", the passant lion, and the Cornhill, London factory mark. Serial number engraved on the base: 2238. Weight: 737 g. Inkwells: Two bottles of cut crystal with sterling silver caps. The caps were made and struck in London in 1907 by the Royal Mappin & Webb manufactory (punch "M&W", passant lion, leopard’s head and date letter "m"). Total weight of the inkwells: 589 g (302 g + 287 g). Total weight of the lot: 1326 g. Conditions: Silver structure in excellent condition with clearly legible punches. The crystal shows slight and normal signs of use on the bottom and lower corners (small chips/fleabites consistent with age), partially hidden when placed in the tray.
