Screen print in excellent condition, produced by Manuel Rivera. Manuel Rivera Hernández (Granada, 1927–Madrid, 1995) was one of the most prominent Spanish artists in the second half of the 20th century, devoted to abstraction and informalism. Trained in Granada and Seville, he developed his own artistic language based on the use of canvases and metal meshes, through which he explored the possibilities of light, space, transparency, and matter. In 1957 he was a founding member of the group El Paso, a decisive collective for the renewal of post-war Spanish art and its international projection. His career soon gained recognition outside Spain: he participated in the São Paulo Biennial (1957) and the Venice Biennale (1958), and in 1960 he was part of the exhibition New Spanish Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Throughout his career he received important honors, including the Carnegie Prize (1964), the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts (1981), and the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France (1985). His work is represented in major national and international collections, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, MoMA and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, Tate and the British Museum in London, the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, consolidating Rivera as an essential figure of the Spanish avant-garde of the 20th century. The work will be carefully packed to ensure its proper preservation during transport.
