Eisenhower — Presidential dais & Capitol, Presidential inauguration, Washington D.C., January 20, 1961 DESCRIPTION: Magnificent set of two photographs taken by Manfred Linus Kreiner on January 20, 1961, during the historic day of John F. Kennedy’s inauguration at the United States Capitol. The first photograph shows John Fitzgerald Kennedy at the presidential dais, alongside Jackie Kennedy and former President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The composition brings together several major figures of this historic day, in front of the crowd gathered to witness the inauguration of the new President of the United States. The second photograph offers a remarkable overall view of the Capitol and its surroundings, with its monumental dome dominating the scene. In the foreground, the presidential motorcade leaves the Capitol at the end of the inauguration ceremony. John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy take their place in the convertible presidential car, closely surrounded by Secret Service agents charged with protecting them. Together in this lot, the two photographs provide two complementary perspectives on the inauguration of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, from the presidential dais gathering the ceremony’s key figures to the departure of the new president and his wife under the protection of the Secret Service.
