Manfred Linus Kreiner - John F

MANFRED LINUS KREINER (1926–2005) Title: John F. Kennedy & Adolfo López Mateos — Under a Rain of Confetti, Mexico, 1962 DESCRIPTION: Magnificent photograph by Manfred Linus Kreiner in Mexico City, on June 29, 1962, during the state visit of President John F. Kennedy to Mexico, at the invitation of Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos. The photograph captures the two presidents in the presidential convertible, at the heart of the official procession traversing the streets of Mexico City. John F. Kennedy and Adolfo López Mateos stand, saluting the crowd, while American Secret Service agents provide close protection. A true downpour of millions of confetti envelops the car and transforming the scene into a striking spectacle. The reception accorded to Kennedy by the Mexican population was exceptional and particularly warm, far exceeding the expectations of the American president. Through its close framing, Kreiner conveys the intensity of the moment, with the two presidents at the center of the image, surrounded by their security detail, journalists, and a crowd gathered along the route. The profusion of confetti gives this photograph a spectacular, instantly recognizable dimension. This photograph belongs to the The Kennedy Years corpus by Manfred Kreiner, rediscovered from the original negatives kept in the archives of the photographer’s estate.
