Manfred Linus Kreiner - John F

MANFRED LINUS KREINER (1926–2005) Title: John F. Kennedy & Konrad Adenauer — Oval Office, White House, Washington D.C., 1962 DESCRIPTION: Magnificent photograph by Manfred Linus Kreiner in Washington D.C., on November 14, 1962, in the Oval Office of the White House, during the meeting between President John F. Kennedy and West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer. The scene takes place a few weeks after the Cuban Missile Crisis, in a particularly tense context of the Cold War and at an important moment in relations between the United States and its European allies. John F. Kennedy appears behind his presidential desk, with Konrad Adenauer by his side, as a remarkable crowd of photographers and journalists faces the desk. The numerous cameras and flashes directed at the president give the scene exceptional intensity. The photograph is distinguished above all by the viewpoint chosen by Kreiner. While other photographers position themselves directly in front of the president, Kreiner moves to the side to capture a broader view of the scene, Kennedy behind his desk, Adenauer by his side, and the entire press gathered in the Oval Office, facing the desk. This framing offers a particularly immersive, interesting, and rare perspective on the backstage of a presidential meeting. This photograph belongs to the corpus The Kennedy Years by Manfred Kreiner, rediscovered from the negatives originally kept in the archives of the photographer’s estate.
