Magnificent ring with 367 brilliant-cut diamonds in gold By Günter

This ring from the atelier of the Stuttgart goldsmith Günter Krauss possesses an extraordinary presence. Crafted in high-carat gold and set with 367 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing more than 7.30 carats in total, the piece captivates at first glance through the remarkable interplay of light created by its countless diamonds. Born in Pforzheim in 1943, Günter Krauss is regarded as one of the most important German jewellers of the late 20th century. His work continues to be admired for its distinctive formal language, architectural clarity and highly refined use of exceptional materials. All of these qualities are beautifully reflected in the present ring. Designed as a broad hoop, nearly the entire visible surface is pavé-set with diamonds. Only the inner section resting against the finger has been left smooth. The stones are arranged in carefully ordered rows, their size following the natural contour of the ring. Towards the centre, the diamonds gradually increase in scale before culminating in a striking central band of larger stones. Despite its considerable presence, the design retains an elegant sense of balance and fluidity. This type of setting is known as pavé. Derived from the French word for “paved,” the term describes a surface so densely set with diamonds that it appears almost entirely composed of light. Tiny beads of gold secure the stones while allowing the metal itself to recede visually into the background. The result is a continuous field of brilliance in which the individual diamonds seem almost to dissolve into one another. The ring came to us from an important Stuttgart collection of rare studio jewellery.
