Magnificent Amethyst & Gold Necklace, Germany c. 1935

Warmly glowing yellow gold frames five deep purple amethysts with a total weight of around 22.50 carats. Wide frames of golden leaves and flowers surround the wonderful stones and create an additional interplay of light and shadow. One shining stone follows the next, staggered according to size. All stones are cut by hand and designed in a step cut. A delicate anchor chain makes the arrangement wearable on the neck. The design and materiality date the necklace to the 1930s. At this time, Art Deco in Germany had moved on from the bright brilliance of white jewels to more nostalgic forms in yellow gold, often reminiscent of Biedermeier jewellery. The finely crafted leaf shapes in the frames of the stones already speak this language, even though the basic design of the piece as a row of angular pendants is quite typical of Art Déco. The necklace impresses with its vibrant colors and wonderful condition. It has obviously been worn very little and very well cared for. We hope that it will soon have another opportunity to shine and inspire. It came to us from the left bank of the Lower Rhine.
