MACAU (SAR). Banco Nacional Ultramarino. 100 Patacas, 22.7.1919. P-9.

An Early 1919 100 Patacas Signed by Lopes in PMG 25 MACAU (SAR). Banco Nacional Ultramarino. 100 Patacas, 22.7.1919. P-9. PMG Very Fine 25. An extremely attractive large format BWC printing. An early hand signed note by Manuel Monteiro Lopes at the lower left, with a red steamship seal III at right and arms at upper left. Back shown with always-appealing near-edge-to-edge under-printing and an elaborate geometric lathe at the centre, with arms at left and right. A high profile banknote and a highlight of this auction. A design type we have only handled three times before, but the first with this early signature. This type is rarely offered publicly, and such occasions always generate large participation from bidders. It is also likely that our estimate will prove conservative. PMG Comments "Minor Restoration, Ink."
