Title of the Listing: Archangel Michael Icon – Egg tempera and gold leaf on panel (30x40 cm) Main Details: Subject: Archangel Michael (АРХАГГЕЛ МIХАIЛ) Dimensions: 30 x 40 cm Technique: Egg tempera and gold leaf on panel Author: Master Iconographer of Monte Sant'Angelo (FG) Conditions: Original work, perfect in every detail Description and Author's Notes: The work depicts Archangel Michael, Prince of the Heavenly Armies, portrayed with the drawn sword and a solemn and reassuring gaze. The author, active in Monte Sant'Angelo, received a certificate in iconography at the Abbey of Pulsano, where he learned directly from the Pulsanese monks the ancient and rigorous technique of Byzantine painting, faithfully handed down from generation to generation and employed for the realization of this panel. Sacredness and Blessing: This work should not be considered a simple furnishing element or decorative object, but a true “window to the divine,” conceived to guide the viewer toward prayer and contemplation. The icon has already been blessed inside the Sacred Heavenly Cave of Monte Sant'Angelo, the famous Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel, unique in the world for never having been consecrated by human hands, but directly by God. For this reason, the work does not require further blessings. Symbolism and Theology of Colors and Symbols: In Christian sacred image doctrine and tradition, every element and hue contains a deep meaning: The Sword: Symbol of the Word of God, powerful and sharp, and of the spiritual victory of good over the forces of evil and darkness. The Helmet / Band between the Hair (Torso): Indicates constant listening and perfect submission of the Archangel to the will of God. The Red/Purple Mantle: Symbol of the fire of the Holy Spirit, heavenly royalty, fervor, and the divine authority with which the Archangel is vested. The Breastplate and the Blue Tunic: Represent divine protection, purity, unwavering faith, and the celestial dimension of his mission. The Golden Background: Symbolizes the inaccessible Light of God, eternity, and the glory of the Kingdom of Heaven that enfolds the sacred figure.
