Luristan Bronze - Bronze sword with a crescent moon motif...

Bronze sword from ancient Persia (about 1100 BC). It comes from the ancient Marlik culture, province of Gilan. The blade is wide, triangular, with at its base lateral reinforcements in the shape of a crescent. The fusee is cylindrical with triangular inlays regularly distributed on two registers. The pommel, in the shape of a flared disk, is adorned with star inlays. The patina is green with some brown hues and some interesting crystalline formations. The few nicks on the blade suggest that this sword was used. The total length of this piece exceeds 32.5 cm. For more information on similar types, see "Arms and Armor" by Manoucher Khorasani, pp. 59 and 71. An almost identical piece is illustrated in "Bronze and Iron" by Oscar Muscarella, page 102. Perfectly conserved. A superb example of this type of sword that one can find. Provenance: Germany, H.T.A. Gallery.
