1746 BAROQUE EDITION OF THE EPIC CHIVALRY NOVEL "Orlando Furioso or Roland Furious - Roland Furieux" by Ludovico Ariosto (1474–1533), an Italian poet, playwright, and diplomat. The work is divided into four volumes with original red morocco bindings from the period, richly decorated, in excellent condition, as shown in the photos. Printed in Paris but in Italian by Prault, with 4 engraved frontispieces by Godefroy after J. M. Moreau, and 1 full page engraved plate by AVELINE François Antoine (1727-1780), after COCHIN Charles Nicolas (1715-1790). The work is divided into four /books, each with its own pictorial title and date. The chivalric poem is composed of 46 cantos/chants in octaves, revolving around the character of Christian knight Orlando/Roland, mythological figures, witches, wizards, monsters, Merlin the Magician, princesses, sex, fantasy, humor, kings, spells, madness, war, love, muslims besieging Paris and invading Charlemagne's France. The plot unfolds by evoking a mythical time mourned by the author, against which the war between Muslim kingdoms of Spain, the Maghreb and Christians unfolds. The first complete and definitive edition with 46 cantos/chants, was published in 1532. The novel remains relevant today; Ludovico Ariosto is aware that he lives in relative truths and realities. Accepting that the world is dominated by irrationality frees us from anguish and allows us to live with lightheartedness and a critical spirit. This flexible perception of reality perfectly anticipates our digital age, where the line between accurate information, deepfakes, and fake news is constantly blurred and contaminated. COMPLETE 1746 EDITION. "Orlando Furioso or Roland Furious - Roland Furieux" by Ludovico Ariosto in its historical setting and characters, it shares some features with the Old French La Chanson de Roland of the eleventh century, which tells of the death of Roland. Edition in Italian printed in Paris by Abbot Annibale Antonini (1702-1755), Italian teacher, author of the Memorial of Paris and a French, Latin, Italian Dictionary. The varied exploits of the characters span the globe, from the wild forests of Northern Scotland to the furthest East Indies, and from the deserts of North Africa to the frozen northern seas, plus a trip to the moon.
