Louis XVI style mirror; 19th century France. Carved and gilded wood.

Louis XVI style mirror; 19th century France. Carved and gilded wood.

Descriptio Measurements: 185 x 96 x 4 cm. Louis XVI style mirror made of carved wood, fully gilded on the front. It has a rectangular profile with curved upper corners and a geometric design on the frame rails. A central crest with foliage, worked in relief and openwork, crowns the composition. These types of pieces were highly valued during the period, as the taste for decorative arts increased in European courts at the end of the 18th century and throughout the 19th century, when superfluous luxury and the desire to possess small, exquisite objects spread among the nobility and the upper bourgeoisie.
