Exceptional complete year 1884 of the Weekly Proceedings of the Sessions of the Academy of Sciences, divided into two strong semiannual volumes (Volume 98 and Volume 99), published in Paris by the prestigious publisher Gauthier-Villars. This year 1884 is a historic vintage for the history of science, because it contains crucial publications: Medicine & Microbiology (Louis Pasteur): Contains the fundamental communication 'On Rabies' by Louis Pasteur, Charles Chamberland and Émile Roux (Volume 98, pp. 1229-1231). It is in this exact volume that Pasteur announces to the international community the discovery of a protocol for attenuating the virus enabling immunization of dogs, laying the immediate foundations of his future human vaccine. Mathematics & Physics (Henri Poincaré): Contains several notes on geometry and mathematical analysis by Henri Poincaré, then on the rise scientifically (notably his works on quadratic forms, Fuchsian functions and differential equations).
