Such enamel signs from the early to mid-20th century served as façade or warehouse indications for regional storage facilities (entrepôts) such as those in Wangenie (a hamlet of Fleurus in Belgium). They are very popular with collectors of old advertising signs. Delhaize is a Belgian supermarket chain. The company was founded in 1867 by Jules Delhaize and his brothers in Ransart, not far from Charleroi. In 1957 Delhaize opened on the Eugène Flageyplein in Elsene the first supermarket with full self-service in Europe.
