Louis Cabasse (XXe) - Village méridional

Louis CABASSE (20th century) - "Southern Village" - Large Original Signed Watercolor. Description: Charming and delicate original composition in watercolor enhanced with pen drawing, depicting a lively scene in the heart of a picturesque alley in a southern French village. The work stands out for a remarkable sense of perspective and great technical precision, characteristic of L. Cabasse's work, a listed painter of the 20th century for his landscapes and seascapes. The artist poetically renders the texture of old exposed-stone facades, the flight of steps, and the wrought-iron railings. The liveliness is brought by finely sketched figures in the foreground: a craftsman or trader with his hand cart exchanging with a group of children, while a man sits and contemplates the scene from the wall of a bridge or a washhouse. The chromatic palette, light and delicate, uses soft tones of gray stones, warm ochres, and delicate lavender blues for the shutters, plunging the viewer into a peaceful and nostalgic atmosphere. The work bears its very clear and authentic handwritten signature Louis Cabasse at the bottom left. It is presented under a large white Passe-Partout (Marie-Louise) that ideally highlights the fineness of the details and the freshness of the pigments.
