Long Earrings Made of Antique Elements with Diamonds in Gold and Silver

Pieces of jewellery that combine fragments of older jewels into something new are called “Mariage,” after the French word for wedding or marriage. We have such a “Mariage” here as well. The pair of earrings is a two-part design and consists of antique elements dating from around 1890. The practical leverbacks are adorned with a cloverleaf made of small diamonds. Below each one, suspended by two delicate gold chains, is a floral element. One can make out a small leaf, beneath which a fruit or a flower cluster emerges. These parts, too, are entirely set with diamonds in historical cuts. In keeping with 19th-century tradition, the diamonds are set in light silver, while the backs are crafted from gold. The individual elements are well-chosen and complement each other very well. Perhaps the lower pendants were once part of a larger piece of jewellery, such as a necklace. We discovered these earrings in Paris exactly as they are today. The historical elements were likely assembled into their current form toward the end of the 20th century. They are very good in condition and are pleasantly simple to wear.
