Limited production (3/25) Saint John the Evangelist – The...

“San Giovanni Evangelista – Il Verbo e l’Aquila” is an intensely spiritual work dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist, one of the fundamental figures of the Christian tradition, here depicted through some of his most recognizable iconographic attributes: the book, the quill, the eagle and the reference to the prologue of his Gospel. The Saint dominates the center of the composition with an inspired and contemplative expression. The face is turned upward, almost in search of a higher light, while in his hand he holds the quill and before him supports an open book, symbol of his mission as evangelist and of the testimony entrusted to the written word. The attitude suggests the moment of inspiration, transforming the scene into a meditation on revelation and divine knowledge. Next to Saint John appears a majestic eagle, traditional iconographic symbol of the Evangelist. The raptor, depicted with great solemnity, recalls the ability of his Gospel to rise toward the deepest mysteries of Christ’s nature. As the eagle soars toward the sky, so John’s thought conducts the gaze beyond the earthly dimension, toward the mystery of the Word and of divinity. Particularly significant is the fragment of inscription visible on the stone at the Saint’s feet: “In principio erat Verbum,” “In principio era il Verbo,” the famous opening of the Gospel according to John. This detail powerfully identifies the subject and becomes one of the symbolic fulcrums of the entire composition, recalling the theme of the eternal Word and the divine light that enters the world. The landscape surrounding the Saint is wide and solemn. The rocks, the sea and the distant architectures create a scenario suspended between reality and contemplation, while the elevated position of the figure suggests a place of retreat and meditation. The natural environment almost seems to accompany the act of writing, transforming the space into an ideal place of revelation. The figure of Saint John is wrapped in ample draperies that confer elegance and monumentality to the composition. The composed posture, the absorbed face and the presence of the eagle build an image of great balance, in which the human dimension of the Evangelist unites with the depth of his spiritual message. Carried out in a refined grayscale with warm sepia reflections, the work strikes with the finesse of the line and with a rendering resembling an ancient devotional engraving. The chiaroscuro models with precision the face, the garments, the eagle’s feathers and the landscape, while the luminosity surrounding the Saint gives the whole scene a contemplative, solemn and timeless character. “San Giovanni Evangelista – Il Verbo e l’Aquila” is not only a decoration, but a true devotional and symbolic image, capable of evoking wisdom, revelation, faith and the search for truth. It is a particularly meaningful work for those who nurture devotion to Saint John the Evangelist and for those who wish to introduce into their spaces a Christian image rich in biblical references and deep contemplative strength. At the bottom right there is a red wax seal, a distinctive detail that adds personality to the work and creates a refined chromatic contrast with the sober tones of the composition. This element further enriches the work, giving it a recognizable, intimate and refined character. - Composition: 55% PU (Polyurethane), 20% Polyester, 5% Cotton, 20% Leather Fiber - Materials compliant with REACH regulations, environmentally friendly and free of harmful substances - Unframed artwork - Packaging and shipping: the artwork will be shipped rolled on a rigid cardboard support to guarantee maximum protection.
