JOUBERT Léon (1851-1928) "View from the Tour Philippe le Bel in Villeneuve lez Avignon" Oil on canvas, Signed at the lower left, Beautiful and grand work by the painter Léon Joubert depicting a view of the Tour Philippe le Bel in Villeneuve lez Avignon from the Île de la Barthelasse. You can notably distinguish the two emblematic monuments of the city: the Tour Philippe Le Bel and the Fort Saint-André. The artist has perfectly represented the autumn light play in the vegetation of the Île de la Barthelasse and on the Tour Philippe Le Bel. A student of Léon Germain Pelouse and Fernand Cormon, Léon Joubert exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1876 to 1927. In 1883, he exhibited landscapes at the Art Association of Montréal (Canada) and whose Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal preserves from the artist a view of the surroundings of Rochefort. He takes pleasure in painting views of towns and villages along the banks of waterways. He is linked to the Barbizon School. In 1895, 1904, 1905, 1908 and 1909, Léon Joubert exhibited at the Salon des artistes views of Avignon and Villeneuve les Avignon. Our painting is perhaps one of the works presented at the Salon by the artist. Dimensions: 65 x 100 cm without frame and 79.5 x 114.5 cm with its original gold wooden frame.
