Le Chardon - Dessert service (27) - Metal

From estate, the storage box is not original, it will be included. From research on Gemini I have the following information about "Le Cardon": (a full report can be requested) The inquiry about “Le Chardon” as a French cutlery maker points to a common misconception. The information available shows that “Le Chardon” is not an independent manufacturer, but rather a specific flatware pattern or a sub-brand produced by the renowned French silversmith Orfèvrerie Saint-Médard Paris. This report examines the history, product range, quality and legacy of Orfèvrerie Saint-Médard, with a particular focus on the distinctive “Le Chardon” pattern, and provides a comprehensive overview for collectors, enthusiasts, and researchers of French table culture. The Saint-Médard Paris Silverware, founded in 1898, established itself as a significant French silversmith known for its high-quality plated tableware and decorative items. The “Le Chardon” pattern, a distinctive sub-brand, is an example of the company's commitment to elegant design and superior craftsmanship, often with the implicit thistle motif. Although the original silversmithing activities of Saint-Médard were likely discontinued during the industry consolidation in the late 20th century, their legacy lives on through their highly sought-after products on the antiques and collecting market. The meticulous quality, the diverse design portfolio, and the historical significance of pieces by Saint-Médard and “Le Chardon” ensure their enduring appeal and solidify their place as valued examples of the French “Art de la Table” and the decorative arts.
