LATE ROMAN GOLD RING WITH CARNELIAN INTAGLIO OF A NOBLEWOMAN

Ca. AD 300 - 400. A gold ring with a broad hoop composed of parallel bands decorated with twisted wire. The circular bezel is bordered by applied granules and flanked by vertical wire collars. Set within is a carnelian intaglio engraved with the bust of a noblewoman in profile to the left, her hair arranged in an elaborate coiffure.
