Large Thai temple dancer – Apsara – Bronze with green...

For sale is an extraordinary, large bronze sculpture of a Thai temple dancer in the traditional dance style. The elegant figure is depicted in a characteristic dance pose. She stands on one leg, while the other is bent backward. The finely worked hand gestures, the slim body, and the graceful movement give the sculpture a particularly expressive appearance. The dancer wears a high, richly adorned pointed crown as well as an elaborately designed traditional robe-like garment with numerous floral ornaments. Gold-colored decorations on the crown, jewelry, and clothing form an appealing contrast to the green-patinated bronze. Particularly noteworthy are the detailed rendering of the face, the delicate headpiece, and the artistic patterns of the clothing. The figure is mounted on a black wooden base and originates from an inherited collection of Asian art and decorative items.
