Tutte le aste / Gioielli & Gemme / Large Kinetic Pendant-Brooch with Emeralds, Diamonds & Pearls, c. 1970

This large jewellery shimmers cool and elegant. Its shape is asymmetrical and is made up of eight individual shapes placed next to each other. The center of each element is a shimmering pearl. Each of the pearls is held by an emerald or a brilliant-cut diamond. Individually hand-bent wires made from high-carat white gold form small nests in and in front of which the pearls have found their place. However, the real special feature, the highlight and the most surprising peculiarity of this piece of jewellery is not revealed in the photograph and even the description can only offer a glimpse: Because each of the beads is mounted to move and with every movement the beads sway slightly back and forth, the whole piece of jewellery virtually vibrates with dynamism. And so the pendant, which can also be worn as a brooch, always remains the same and yet never looks the same as it did just a moment ago. In the years shortly after 1900, jewellery with movable beads regularly appeared in the form of large, round "plaque" pendants. The design idea then disappeared again in the 1920s and only returned in the 1960s in the wake of kinetic art. It was a time of new beginnings in society and art, of joy for the future and progress in all areas. This piece of jewellery clearly breathes this zeitgeist: it is light, cheerful, elegant and clearly modern. Another beautiful detail is that the piece of jewelry can be worn both as a brooch and as a pendant. Judging by its hallmarks, the piece of jewellery was most likely made in Germany. Its design language and workmanship, its first-class preservation and its charming idea of bringing movement into the piece of jewellery allow us to date it to around 1970.
