A monumental and highly atmospheric antique Chinese bamboo brush holder, locally and internationally known as a 'Bitong'. This impressive work of art (height 32 cm) was handmade around 1920 from a single solid, hollow bamboo culm. This type of decorative ware originally formed a prestigious feature on the writing desk of Chinese scholars and literary men. The relief carving depicts a Chinese landscape with scholars and a fisherman, with an ink drawing on the interior and a warm patina. Dimensions & Weight: Height: 32 cm Width x Depth: 10.2 x 10.2 cm Weight: 0.5 kg (500 grams) Condition: Good antique condition with a stable, natural crack on the rear as proof of age.
