This bracelet is made of natural lapis-lazuli beads cut into faceted cubes, in a deep, intense blue speckled with fine gold inclusions of pyrite. The multiple facets catch the light and reveal the richness of this royal blue, while discreet white calcite veins nuance the whole. Lapis-lazuli, stone of wisdom and inner truth, is traditionally associated with clarity of mind and self-expression. Lapis-lazuli, mined for over six thousand years from the Badakhshan mines in Afghanistan, was so precious in Antiquity that it was ground to produce ultramarine pigment, a pigment reserved for royal frescoes and the most sacred illuminations. 1.
