λ PAUL MAZE (FRENCH/BRITISH 1887-1979) THE OLD PORT, SAINT-TROPEZ, WITH NOTRE-DAME-DE-L'ASSOMPTION Watercolour Signed and titled (lower right) 55 x 76cm (21½ x 29¾in.) Paul Maze had a strong connection with Saint-Tropez. His lifelong friend Segonzac bought a house there in 1925 and became the neighbour of the writer Colette. Segonzac and Colette became close friends and he subsequently created the etchings for her book La Treille Muscate, named after her house. Maze himself knew Colette, who affectionately nicknamed him The Shepherd, for his tweed clothing.
