Large bronze Art Deco-style statue "Illusion of Virtue" – After Demetre H. Chiparus – France – Mid-Century (ca. 1960-1970) Beautiful and substantial solid bronze sculpture in the Art Deco style, titled "Illusion of Virtue", crafted after the iconic design of the famous master sculptor Demetre Haralamb Chiparus (1886-1947). This high-quality piece depicts an elegant dancer in an exotic costume, characteristic of the Roaring Twenties aesthetic and the Egyptian Revival influences of the period. This is a sought-after vintage re-issue from the 1960s-1970s, produced using the traditional and very labor-intensive lost-wax method (cire perdue). This is reflected in the exceptionally sharp detailing and fine textures of the dress and the headdress. The sculpture bears on the bronze base the engraved signature "D.H. Chiparus" and on the back the authentic square foundry stamp: "L'Art Bronze - Qualité France". This quality seal confirms the French origin and clearly distinguishes this piece from lighter, modern Asian imported reproductions. The piece rests on a beautifully polished, black round marble pedestal. • Material: Solid bronze on a black marble base • Dating: Mid-Century (ca. 1960-1970) • Height: 49.5 cm (including pedestal) • Weight: 3300 grams (3.3 kg) • Condition: In excellent vintage condition with a very beautiful, deep bronze patina.
