A founding artist of Irrunytju Arts, her paintings are grounded in Tjukurpa and the significant sites, ancestral narratives and cultural knowledge of her Country. Her works are characterised by their strong sense of place, translating these interconnected narratives into richly layered compositions. In this work, Kuntjiriya depicts the story of Minyma Piiwi (Tawny Frogmouth Woman) at her Country near Kuynutjara. Minyma Piiwi sits beside a large cave, eating, when two men arrive after travelling from Kalgoorlie. The men are her nephews and, as their auntie, she welcomes them and offers them food. They later set out to hunt kuka (meat), searching for tjuwalpi (stick-nest rat). The painting evokes a landscape shaped by Tjukurpa, in which Country, kinship and ancestral narrative are inseparable. Through the depiction of significant sites and journeys, Kuntjiriya affirms the cultural knowledge embedded within Country and its transmission across generations. © KUNTJIRIYA MICK / Copyright Agency, 2026
