Knoll, NO RESERVE PRICE - Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Barcelona Armchair – Design Ludwig Mies van der Rohe & Lilly Reich – Production Knoll Studio We present at auction one of the most famous and fascinating icons of design and the Modern Movement: the Barcelona Armchair, designed in 1929 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe together with Lilly Reich (his partner and the only woman to have taught at the Bauhaus school). Design and history: Classical Architecture: Barcelona was born as a refined reimagining of the curule chair, the famous X-shaped folding throne of ancient Rome. The rest of a king: born for the German Pavilion of the 1929 Barcelona World Fair, also a masterpiece signed by Mies van der Rohe, the armchair was conceived “for the rest of a king” on the occasion of the visit of the Royal Family of Spain. With its elegant simplicity, it perfectly embodies the designer's famous motto: "Less is more". Lot conditions: The Barcelona armchair in this auction is presented in excellent used condition.
