Kerkelijke messing kandelaar met kroonrand – Neogotische...

Church brass candlestick with crown rim – Gothic Revival style – probably around 1880-1920 A atmospheric candlestick with a stately appearance and a particularly decorative detail: the openwork, crown-shaped rim around the candle holder. The warm brass and the balanced construction make this object a handsome eye-catcher, both in a collection of religious art and in a classical interior. The slender stem is interrupted by ring-shaped accents and a broad middle ornament. At the bottom it flows into a round, domed foot. At the top there is a spacious bowl with a central candlestick pin. This type is also called a pricket candlestick: the candle is placed on the pin. The graceful crown rim consists of repeated shamrock shapes and round openings. Such motifs connect to the Gothic Revival, a style that was widely applied in church furnishing and liturgical metalwork in the 19th and early 20th century. A characterful object that presents nicely on a mantelpiece, an antique sideboard, or a home altar. Even without a candle, the silhouette and the open upper rim remain attractive to look at.
